When I first started in the construction and development space, I was just a young local with a fair bit of ambition: to build and flip a house. It wasn’t a huge project and looking back, it seems small - but at the time, it was my first real chance to make decisions, manage the build from start to finish, and really learn the process.
That first house was for my now fiancée, Yvette, and I. It soon led to a second, then a third, and gradually I started to understand the possibilities in development. Starting out in construction and building Platinum Pro Construction, I continued to develop my understanding of how a well-planned block can be made into a home people genuinely love, and how collaboration with local builders, contractors, and designers is where the best advice comes from.
Now, here at 40|43 Developments, we’ve got something exciting in the making. As you may have seen: a two-stage, 27-lot subdivision on Trevor Street in Ulverstone.
For us, this is a huge project. It shows what’s possible if you’re willing to take the first step, start small, and learn as you go. If you’ve got the itch to get into development - even just one block at first - this could be where it all begins.
Opportunities like this aren’t just exciting for 40|43 – they’re a chance for local builders, designers, and developers too. Buying a few blocks in a subdivision could let you showcase your style, test a concept, or flip a few homes.
At 4043, I can guide you through the complete process, whether that’s buying and building a new home, purchasing just the land, or exploring the potential in your current yard. For me, it’s also a chance to support other builders and developers and share what I’ve learned along the way.
I can speak from experience about how valuable local support is. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance, advice, and relationships of others in this space.
So, if you’re thinking about stepping into your first build, or expanding your development portfolio, my advice is to start small, lean on your local community, and don’t be afraid to take that first opportunity. And if you’re well into your development journey, I’d love for you to share insights with me as I tackle this new subdivision.
